Thick brush piles and cedar swamps can also provide cover, but they are not the preferred cover as they are not as abundant and do not provide as much food as dense brush and heavily wooded areas. Open fields do not provide enough coverage or protection for white-tailed deer and are therefore not the preferred cover.
